First of all, I would like to say congratulations to all…we made it through one heck of a wicked winter – we ALL proved to be stronger than “Mother Nature!” And second of all, I would like to welcome everyone to spring! I believe we all let out one unified “AHHH” once the weather broke…to feel the warmth of the sun’s radiance upon my skin has been, by far, the best “spring time” gift Mother Nature could ever give us all.

Springtime is a season of newness (birth/re-birth), a season of swiftness (wind), a season of cleanliness (think detox), a season of bright colors (pastels) and a season of upward energy (think about the plants/flowers jutting upward from the ground) and, unfortunately a season for allergies. The beauty of Springtime is often tainted by the unruly symptoms of “seasonal allergies”; many people (like me) are mildly bothered by a runny nose and sneezing, from time to time, while others may be crippled by more severe symptoms such as fatigue, watery & itchy eyes, congested sinuses (stuffy nose), sinus headaches, coughing, sneezing and irritability. Luckily, you – the reader, knows an acupuncturist or two, who may be able to assist you in managing your “seasonal allergies” this year! Come on in for an acupuncture treatment designed to clear your sinuses, boost your immune system and calm your mind!

I’ve had the pleasure of treating G.D. for the past year and a half and it has been stated, by this patient many times, that their weekly acupuncture treatments have helped, immensely, in decreasing her allergy symptoms. Overall, G.D. reports that her energy is up, she is much calmer, her eyes are less itchy and her nose is not as stuffed as it used to be. And a bonus result from G.D.’s weekly acupuncture treatments is that she “just let things roll off my back…I don’t stress over family things…I’m much calmer and less reactive.”

Please read on…I have included a few short descriptions of recent studies pertaining to acupuncture and seasonal allergies…

The American Journal of Chinese Medicine reports that a small study found that acupuncture decreased the symptoms in all 26 hay fever patients without side effects

A new study published by the Annals of Internal Medicine found that patients who received acupuncture treatment for seasonal allergic rhinitis reported improvements in symptoms and decreased their use of medications. Allergic rhinitis affects an estimated 20% of the U.S. population according to the study researchers.

A study published in the journal Allergy also found that acupuncture treatments, when administered 3 times a week over 4 weeks, relieved allergy symptoms when compared with a sham procedure.

So, the bottom line is….studies suggest that regular acupuncture treatments can help decrease with seasonal allergy symptoms. Give us a call so we can help you have a more enjoyable and healthy Spring.
