Volunteer at Roxborough Community Acupuncture

Roxborough Community Acupuncture is a group effort. It is a “community” acupuncture clinic in more ways than one. Not only is the clinic designed around a communal healing model, but it has taken a community of people to get it up and running – and to keep it running.

Many hours of work by many friends have gotten the office decorated, business cards and web based materials designed, and supplies stocked. More help has been provided through the front desk volunteers and helpers.  When you walk into the office, you walk into a space designed from the ground up by many hands. And you are treated based on the collective and continually developing wisdom of thousands of years of Asian medicine.

Not only that, but RCA is a member clinic of POCA, the People’s Organization of Community Acupuncture.  POCA is a multi-stakeholder cooperative aimed at taking control of the entire structure that is required to provide health care.  By becoming a POCA patient member and volunteering at our clinic (or another), you help to grow the movement to provide affordable acupuncture.  POCA clinics aim to treat 50 million people a year by 2020.  Currently, only 3.1 million people receive acupuncture in the US, so we need a lot of help reaching those extra 47 million!

Being a volunteer is extremely rewarding, and if you are a student in healthcare, or better yet, an acupuncture student, being a volunteer can be great for learning how a practice is run, and how to be of service to people.  Plus, you get to learn things the acupuncture schools don’t teach you!  Even if you aren’t a student, and most volunteers aren’t, you’ll gain more than you give and get to be a part of something special.  Just ask one of our many volunteers!

There is always more work to be done, and contributions of all sorts come in on a continuing basis.  If you are interested in contributing any talents to the design and running of Roxborough Community Acupuncture, just let us know!  If you have a specific project in mind that you think will enhance the space or the activity of Roxborough Community Acupuncture, we’d love to hear from you. We are open to change!
Projects might include:

  • Running the front desk – This is MOST important and in need right now.
  • Outreach to different communities
  • Collecting online resources to connect to the website
  • Consulting about small business strategies
  • Distributing flyers

There are many possibilities!
